Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing for Opioid Use Disorder is most frequently delivered in one-on-one in-person sessions.

Evidence-based Scale

Motivational Interviewing for Opioid Use Disorder (MI-OUD) is most commonly delivered in one-on-one sessions between the patient and a trained counselor. MI-OUD has also been delivered in group format, typically combined with psychoeducation and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. There is little research comparing the effectiveness of MI-OUD delivered individually versus in a group format. MI-OUD has only been studied when delivered face-to-face, with no studies testing its delivery via telehealth or video conference.
