Client/Patient
Individuals’ beliefs, sociodemographic factors, and pain characteristics can inhibit or facilitate chiropractic care's acceptability.
Barriers
Negative preconceptions and doubts about chiropractic care, such as skepticism or misinformation, can prevent individuals from seeking or meaningfully engaging in chiropractic care. These unfavorable beliefs may stem from a lack of understanding or exposure to evidence-based information about chiropractic care. Patient factors - such as age, sex, socioeconomic status, insurance status, and cultural background - may influence these negative perceptions.
Facilitators
Positive beliefs about chiropractic care, especially when coupled with satisfying past experiences (either personal or observed), can encourage individuals to seek this form of treatment.
Chiropractic care may be seen as more suitable for certain types of pain than others. The type of musculoskeletal pain experienced, such as low back or neck pain, can influence a patient's perception of how effective chiropractic care might be for their specific condition.
