Health Outcomes

Participation in interdisciplinary programs is associated with opioid discontinuation and improvements in pain intensity, pain interference, pain-related function, and mood for individuals with chronic pain.

A mean opioid discontinuation rate of 87% (range of 29-100%) has been found for individuals with chronic pain participating in interdisciplinary pain programs.

Low-to-moderate quality evidence suggests interdisciplinary treatments are effective for improving pain intensity, pain interference (the degree to which pain affects daily functioning), pain-related function, and mood in individuals with chronic non-cancer pain.
