Inner Setting
Mindfulness-based interventions for substance use require a substantial time commitment to learn, which may be difficult for some substance use treatment programs. Very little has been published about barriers and facilitators in the inner setting for mindfulness-based interventions for substance use, so we also highlight factors related to general mindfulness-based interventions and general substance use interventions.
Barriers
Substance use treatment programs with high staff turnover and high caseloads may struggle to integrate a 16-hour protocol into their standard workflow.
The time required for training is a barrier for both individual providers and organizations. Organizations need to release staff for sufficient time to complete training, which is likely to be challenging in resource-constrained environments.
