Research Questions
Further research may assess how to better address naltrexone’s unique initiation requirements and better support how non-healthcare settings can offer naltrexone given the unique infrastructure requirements for medication storage and administration.
Future research questions regarding naltrexone may include:
- Evaluating novel naltrexone initiation strategies that are not as burdensome and uncomfortable as conventional detoxification approaches.
- How non-healthcare settings can be better supported in offering naltrexone given the infrastructure needs relating to medication ordering, storage, administration, and disposal.
- Exploring patient preferences for either methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone, and evaluating the comparative effectiveness of these medications across various patient and provider characteristics.
