Research Questions
Additional research is needed to understand the effectiveness of CBT-CP, its implementation in pain treatment, and how efforts to reduce cost (e.g., telehealth, group, masters-level providers) affect effectiveness and acceptability.
Future research questions regarding CBT-CP may include:
- Identifying provider-level barriers and facilitators to CBT-CP implementation, such as training requirements, clinician confidence and competency, workflow integration challenges, and attitudes toward chronic pain treatment approaches.
- Examining system-level barriers and facilitators to CBT-CP adoption, including organizational support, resource allocation, reimbursement policies, and integration with existing healthcare delivery models.
- Evaluating the effectiveness and acceptability of alternative CBT-CP delivery modalities, such as telehealth platforms, group-based interventions, and delivery by master-level providers, compared to traditional individual face-to-face therapy approaches.
- Assessing the cost-effectiveness and scalability of different CBT-CP delivery models, including their impact on patient access, treatment outcomes, and healthcare system resource utilization.
