Educational materials for learning CM are available both online and in print and include training materials, resources, and guides.

Recovery Incentives Program: California’s Contingency Management (CM) Benefit - California’s CM program has a wealth of free training materials and resources on their Contingency Management Overview Training website. Specific resources include: a CM Program Manual, a CM Team Requirements Flow Chart, Handouts and Slides for Part 1 of the Implementation Training, Handouts and Slides for Part 2 of the Implementation Training, Slides describing the Incentive Manager Portal, a Provider Outreach and Communications Toolkit, Recovery Incentives Program Flyers and Business Cards, and a Reference List. On a different webpage, the team has also compiled a number of informational resources about CM including fact sheets, reports, policy documents, and a FAQ about the recovery incentive program.

Northwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network (ATTC): Contingency Management for Healthcare Settings - The Northwest ATTC has a comprehensive online course consisting of 4 online training modules that describe core elements of CM, 3 scientifically-supported systems, and how CM can be used in healthcare settings. The website also contains a set of four supplemental brief information guides on targeted topics including: Discussing Client Eligibility, Allowable Rewards, Drug Screening Methods, and Documentation Practices.

Brown University: Project MIMIC Training Materials and Resources - Project MIMIC was a 28-site trial that tested two different strategies to help opioid treatment programs implement CM targeting treatment engagement/attendance. The Project MIMIC website includes recordings of a 3-part training that are divided into easily viewed segments: CM Principles; Model CM Session via Telehealth (in English and Spanish); Designing and Refining a CM Protocol; Contingency Management Rating Scale; CM Tracker Tool; Debunking CM Barriers; and VA Rollout of CM. There is also a resources page that contains an array of handouts including: Protocol Development Worksheet; CM Explanation Worksheet; Applying Reinforcement Schedules; Prize Reminder Slips - Attendance; Example Prize Menus; Virtual Fishbowl; and Certificate of CM Completion.

Arena Training for Evidence Based Programs: Contingency Management Training - Arena offers comprehensive online trainings in CM that are tailored to working with Youth, Emerging Adults, and Adults. There is an associated fee. Training can be counted towards Continuing Education (CE) credits.

Northwestern University: Project MIMIC2 - The team that led Project MIMIC has developed another set of materials focused on CM targeting stimulant non-use. The Project MIMIC2 website offers free recorded trainings and slides. The training materials page contains slides and recordings of three training sessions: CM Principles; Designing and Refining Your CM Protocol; and Monitoring, Tracking and Practicing CM.

Case Western Reserve University: Contingency Management - Case Western Reserve has created a webpage that contains summaries of existing research on CM for stimulant, opioid, and alcohol use disorders. For each substance, the team has created a Research Summary Report, a Research Summary Brief, a Report Glossary, and a Summary of CM Studies.

University of Vermont: Contingency Management
The University of Vermont, which is renowned for its role in developing CM voucher models, has created a CM Provider Training Video and a CM Professional Certificate Program.

University of Connecticut Health Center: Contingency Management Competence Scales - Researchers from the University of Connecticut Health Center, which is renowned for its role in developing CM prize-based models, have created two scales and coding manuals that can be used to assess therapist competence in CM to ensure that CM is being delivered in the intended manner. There is a version targeting abstinence (Contingency Management Competence Scale for Reinforcing Abstinence) and another version targeting attendance (Contingency Management Competence Scale for Reinforcing Attendance).
